Exciting news! I hit my year mark last Thursday! It was also sister
Ard's birthday, so we had a fun time that day!
I can't even remember what really happened this week, but I do know
what I learned!
This week has been absolutely amazing with learning experiences and
with memories!
Yesterday especially was an emotional roller coaster, but I learned so much!
So on Sunday we had 3 investigators at church (which is a big deal
because trying to get people from the res to come to church is a
STRUGGLE). Well, our investigator, Ryan, (who is getting baptized next
week) came to church. However, the talks that we were being given were
about the Addiction Recovery Program and we think it may have struck a
cord with him and he got up and left. Anyway, Ryan also lost his job
and got rid of his cell phone this last week too, so yesterday we had
a lesson with him, but we weren't able to get ahold of him because he
doesn't have a phone anymore and he moved out to the res and we don't
know his address... talk about the struggle.. well, it was also the
first time that's brought Bishop to a lesson as well, and Ryan didn't
show up.
So you know, we automatically think of the worst thing possible. He
got triggered from those talks in Sacrament meeting, then went home
and started drinking because he isn't interested anymore.
Well, Heavenly Father knows the desire of our hearts. We have been
getting phone calls left and right today, so the phone rang for the
5th time and I looked at it and said, "Sister, it's a private number,
should I answer?" Well, I answered it anyway...
Me: "Hello, it's Sister Fisher!"
Unknown: "hey"
Me: "Pardon? May I ask who I'm-"
Unknown: "it's Ryan, I just wanted to apologize about yesterday and
tomorrow's session is still on."
Me (trying not to freak out): *covers the speaker and whispers*
SISTER. IT'S RYAN. HE ISNT DEAD. *uncovers speaker* OH HELLO RYAN! We
are SOOO glad to hear from you!"
Boys and Girls. Heavenly Father truly does answer prayers.
Anyway, I am so thankful that I have been able to serve the Lord as a
missionary for a whole year now. I never want it to end, I want to
continue to see miracles and see people coming closer to Our Saviour
everyday. I want to be able to teach people about the gospel for the
rest of my life. I want to be able to help people all the time. That's
why I love being a missionary.
I have learned in the last year that faith requires action. In my
favourite Mormon Message "the Hope of God's Light" Todd Sylvester
says, "spiritual light rarely come to those who sit in darkness
waiting for someone to flip a switch. It takes an act of faith to open
our eyes to the light of Christ."
Our questions are usually not answered just with a snap of our
fingers. It doesn't usually just come with a flip of a switch. Our
answers can take years of studying and praying. They come more like a
sunrise, where light comes little by little. Our answers usually come
as we trust in our Saviour.
Heavenly Father asks us to jump and he promises catch us.
Too many times we say, "How about you catch me then I'll jump."
It doesn't work that way. "We receive no witness until after the trial
of our faith."
I love you all so much & I hope you all have a wonderful week.
