July 18, 2017 375 days in the making

Hello everyone!

Exciting news! I hit my year mark last Thursday! It was also sister
Ard's birthday, so we had a fun time that day!

I can't even remember what really happened this week, but I do know
what I learned!

This week has been absolutely amazing with learning experiences and
with memories!

Yesterday especially was an emotional roller coaster, but I learned so much!

So on Sunday we had 3 investigators at church (which is a big deal
because trying to get people from the res to come to church is a
STRUGGLE). Well, our investigator, Ryan, (who is getting baptized next
week) came to church. However, the talks that we were being given were
about the Addiction Recovery Program and we think it may have struck a
cord with him and he got up and left. Anyway, Ryan also lost his job
and got rid of his cell phone this last week too, so yesterday we had
a lesson with him, but we weren't able to get ahold of him because he
doesn't have a phone anymore and he moved out to the res and we don't
know his address... talk about the struggle.. well, it was also the
first time that's brought Bishop to a lesson as well, and Ryan didn't
show up.

So you know, we automatically think of the worst thing possible. He
got triggered from those talks in Sacrament meeting, then went home
and started drinking because he isn't interested anymore.

Well, Heavenly Father knows the desire of our hearts. We have been
getting phone calls left and right today, so the phone rang for the
5th time and I looked at it and said, "Sister, it's a private number,
should I answer?" Well, I answered it anyway...

Me: "Hello, it's Sister Fisher!"

Unknown: "hey"

Me: "Pardon? May I ask who I'm-"

Unknown: "it's Ryan, I just wanted to apologize about yesterday and
tomorrow's session is still on."

Me (trying not to freak out): *covers the speaker and whispers*
SISTER. IT'S RYAN. HE ISNT DEAD. *uncovers speaker* OH HELLO RYAN! We
are SOOO glad to hear from you!"

Boys and Girls. Heavenly Father truly does answer prayers.

Anyway, I am so thankful that I have been able to serve the Lord as a
missionary for a whole year now. I never want it to end, I want to
continue to see miracles and see people coming closer to Our Saviour
everyday. I want to be able to teach people about the gospel for the
rest of my life. I want to be able to help people all the time. That's
why I love being a missionary.

I have learned in the last year that faith requires action. In my
favourite Mormon Message "the Hope of God's Light" Todd Sylvester
says, "spiritual light rarely come to those who sit in darkness
waiting for someone to flip a switch. It takes an act of faith to open
our eyes to the light of Christ."

Our questions are usually not answered just with a snap of our
fingers. It doesn't usually just come with a flip of a switch. Our
answers can take years of studying and praying. They come more like a
sunrise, where light comes little by little. Our answers usually come
as we trust in our Saviour.
Heavenly Father asks us to jump and he promises catch us.
Too many times we say, "How about you catch me then I'll jump."

It doesn't work that way. "We receive no witness until after the trial
of our faith."

I love you all so much & I hope you all have a wonderful week.

July 11, 2017 Lice, I mean, life got in the way 🐜

Well, by the title of my email, you may have been able to tell, it's
been a decently exciting week.

A few weeks ago sister Ard kept saying that her head itches, and being
the person that I am was like, "cool, sometimes my head itches too." I
seriously did not think much of it, however, on Wednesday we were
doing some paper work stuff and sister Ard asked me if I could check
her head for lice, so I am digging through her head like an ape
looking for some bugs to eat when I see a little tiny bug. I freaked
out and said, "SISTER THERE IS A BUG IN YOUR HAIR." So, we asked Siri
watch lice look like, and screamed our little hearts out. However, I
remember another companionship getting lice so I was searching through
my email to find pics. Well, while I was doing that, sister Ard moved
her head SO THE BUG WAS NO WHERE TO BE FOUND. And as soon as I got the
picture pulled up I screamed again because it looked the exact same!

We called sister Pattison, however last week was transfers and they
were in the temple with all the missionaries going home (RIP). So two
hours later we get a call saying to launder everything in our house
and to go get some Nix Shampoo which removes nits & lice. Well, this
was about 7:00 at night that this is all happening, we didn't sleep
well that night because we left there was bugs crawling all over us.
So the next day we text President and tell him everything going on and
that we basically had to vacuum & clean everything in our apartment,
he was like "Do what you need to Do." Holy goodness, we basically
bleached out whole apartment, ain't no louse surviving in this
apartment.

Luckily, we've done a head check everyday and I have not had one louse
in my hair, but sister Ard had 6 little friends just chilling with her
for over a week.

There was also a HUGE lightning storm this week. It reminded me of the
time where my bestie, Ashley Margaret Hayes, and I would just sit and
try to catch a picture of lightning outside of her house. I love her.

Anyway, I have a talk about Kindness on Sunday. As I was studying the
Atonement this week, I was also studying about how kind Christ was to
be able to do that for us. In three of the four Gospels, it mentions
Christ asking Heavenly Father to take the bitter cup from him. I
realized that I am sure our Saviour was completely overwhelmed and
maybe for the first time realized the full measure of what was being
asked of him. Personally, I would not want to suffer as the Book of
Mormon says, "pains and temptations and afflictions of every kind" and
I personally believe that Christ wasn't to fond of the idea as well.

However, our loving and merciful Saviour suffered in the Garden of
Gethsemane not just for me, but for every single person on this Earth;
whether they choose to repent and come closer to him or not, he still
suffered.

I will forever be thankful for my Saviour. And I am so thankful that I
know I am safe with my Saviour.

I love you all and hope you have an itch-free week!

July 4, 2017 LET FREEDOM RING πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ’™πŸŽ‡πŸŽ†

Well, happy Independence Day to all my fellow American Friends.
Have fun watching fireworks, eating hot dogs, watching The Sandlot and
singing the National Anthem. I'll be home for the next one, so see ya
then. ;)
Lemme tell you, Canadians tell us that we are too patriotic however I
do not think there is such a thing as too patriotic, I love America.

Canada Day was great, spent a whole lotta time out in the community.
Serving & talking to people all day long, except when everything got
rained out except the powwow however, we didn't go to the powwow
because we didn't know what kind of crowd it would be. Turns out we
totally should have gone because everyone was talking about it.

We seriously have been teaching all day everyday. Even when we are
just playing to go evaluate and update, someone from across the street
is like, "Hey, do you guys want to come and talk to me right now?" So,
we do.

Thursday was crazy!! We were on the reserve for probably 4 hours just
teaching people. We had just gotten out of a lesson when a former
investigator from across the street literally yells, "Sisters! Come &
talk to me before I do something crazy." So, we did.
She had just come home from a funeral of three people and said, "I am
done with this."
Just then, we hear her cat screaming so loud and we were like, "what the heck?"
About 15 minutes later, her son comes breaking through the door, "Mom!
Mom! Mom! Where does that cat expert live?! Where does she live?"
Verda said, "Why what's wrong with Baby?" (That's the cats name)
Liam says, "MOM, BABY IS HAVING KITTENS."
Verda screams, "WHAT WHERE?!"
Lol, this is literally in the middle of the lesson when all this
happened. So Verda went and told the whole townsite that she is a
grandma!
We were like, "I mean I guess so."

HAHAHA, we literally witnessed two kittens being birthed. Weirdest
experience on my mission thus far.

ANOTHER MIRACLE HAPPENED:
Sunday we didn't have a supper appointment and it was fast Sunday. And
all we had was chicken, and we've been eating chicken all we long. I
mean, goodness gracious I love chicken, but it gets boring after a
little while.
So we had to call a member back & before we called her back I was
like, "I am praying that she says, 'Blah blah blah, anyway do you guys
have a supper appointment? Oh no! Well, we are having hamburger
lettuce wrapped tonight if you want to come over at 5:30?"
Low and behold, miracles do happen. She said almost those exact words,
and we ate hamburgers. I had my nice gluten free hamburger that was
lettuce wrapped, might I just add that they were G O A L S. seriously
cutest couple in the ward. I love them, they are my friends now. :)
also, yesterday she stopped by our home & gave me gluten free banana
chocolate chip muffins, o my goodness.
I was in Heaven. Since being diagnosed with Celiac Disease, I have not
tasted of the deliciousness of baked goods.  It tasted JUST LIKE a
regular muffin. #blessingsOnBlessingsOnBlessings

I love the Saviour & I love you all!

Also, the Atonement of Jesus Christ is so real. I have seen it in my
life and in the life of our investigators. I am so grateful for Christ
and that he was willing to suffer all manner of afflictions so that we
may trust him in all of our pains. He's real. He heals. He helps.

June 27, 2017 "...by small & simple things are great things brought to pass.."

Hello my friends,

This week has been a week of miracles, a week of prayer, a week of
tears. However, it has also felt like two days since I last emailed.

Canada turns 150 years old this week, happy happy birthday to the true
north, strong and freee!

Again with miracles, sister Ard always says when we are in a crisis,
"Sister Fisher, pray for a miracle because every time you do, it
happens."

It's crazy.. because it happens.

For example,
Brother Anderson (single dad in the ward, his wife just recently
passed away) called us to come help him out with handing out flyers
for the food drive that happened this last week; the only problem is
we had a lesson with a less active couple the same time as he was
asking to come help. We prayed about it and felt like going with Bro.
Anderson was the best choice because he was just having a difficult
time. So we cancelled with the less actives, went to a lesson with our
investigator Ryan, and didn't think much about it. Long story short,
Bro. Anderson cancelled on us by poking his head in the room we
teaching him and says, "sister's I don't need help anymore."
So by the time we finished with Ryan's lesson, we were like, "Well
let's see if they can still meet." Because they never text us back. So
we text them and kinda wait for a little bit, but we either needed to
teach a lesson or go to work, so we prayed & asked for a miracle that
we would be able to either to hear back from her in a minute & teach a
lesson or be able to hear back & then go out to work. I kid you not,
not even 30 seconds later we get a text back that confirmed we should
go out & work. And we found a new potential! Awesome!

Another huge miracle we had this week was when we drove 30 minutes to
a supper appointment that we had confirmed with... and she wasn't
there.... awkward, well sister Ard and I are completely out of money
for the month and we were running low on food, so we decided to
basically get little by little what we had left, which was probably
something like lettuce & gluten free rice crackers when she calls us
and says meet me at No Frills (grocery store commonly found throughout
Canada). So we get to no frills and she proceeds to take us grocery
shopping & at the end gives us another $40 dollars and says, "you need
it more than me." I almost started crying. I was so happy to be able
to have a miracle like that because we were working our hearts out to
find people to bring people closer to the Saviour.

Another tender mercy this week, we were once again out on the reserve
in the Montana band. And the reserve is funny because there is NO
street signs, they just barely got house numbers, so you just have to
go find people by directions. It's so hard. We are definitely not
familiar with the Montana Band either! So that was a struggle trying
to find where our investigator moved to when the directions are:
1. Go to the four way stop & turned left
2. You will see a post office & drug store on the left, keep going.
3. Then you will see a school keep going.
4. Go to the second four way stop, turn right.
5. The greyish brown house is where the (this is an actual last name)
Standing On The Roads live.

So after an hour or so of running up and down knocking on sketchy
houses, talking to children about where these people live; we decided
to go to the Samson Band, because that's where all our friends live.
We had prayed for a miracle to happen because we know that this
investigator is so ready for the Gospel, & LOW & BEHOLD, LORI (the
investigator we were trying to find) IS AT THE OTHER INVESTIGATORS
HOUSE! Miracles I am telling you happen all of the time!

It's funny how miracles work. Small things really do bring about great
things, I love this work and I love the Lord.

June 20, 2017 My 7301 Day on Earth!

Hello friends, family, people I love & care about,

First, happy Father's Day to my old man! Love you dad! Seriously,
thank you for everything you have done for me throughout my life.
One of my favourite memories of my dad and I is when we drove to
Farmington to get my new license and after I totally convinced you to
go see Star Wars 7 at Farmington Station, so we ended up sitting in
one of the very front rows. Anyway, I just walked in all happy to be
there with my dad watching Star Wars, and just reminiscing in the days
where I would open my presents and instead of a Barbie doll, I got a
Darth Vader mask and a lightsaber that changed colours. Well, my dad
being the observant man that he is sits down with eyes as big a
quarters and says, "Lex, look who behind us."
So I turn around and sitting there is President Dieter F. Uchtdorf
with his wife and family members. If I do remember right, he was
wearing a sweater vest. And so instead of being focused on the movie
the the entire time, I was trying to listen to what President Uchtdorf
said about every part in the movie.

Love you dad, thanks for teaching me to trust in Heavenly Father.
Thanks for teaching me what it means to work hard. Thanks for teaching
me that I can do anything I want. I love you dad. Honestly, I would be
a completely different person if it weren't for you. I remember you
doing your high kicks in the parking lot and yelling, "THIS IS MY
DAUGHTER LEXIE! I AM HER DAD!!!" Holy goodness, no wonder I am so
weird. It's okay though because after a few years of ducking in
between cars in the parking lot while you were doing that, I learned
how to embarrass you. So instead of you kicking your legs above your
head in the parking lot, it was me, but in the actual grocery store.
You trying to embarrass me really backfired on you didn't it?

Thanks for being you, because we are the same. You little stubborn
guy. I love you.

Second, thanks for all the birthday wishes, I might not have time to
reply to everyone, but I just want to say thank you. My 20th birthday
was awesome, we celebrated by getting some free GF cheesecake at
Boston Pizza. 😍

This week was great! We put 2 more people on date for baptism, and our
investigator Ryan has been sober for a whole week. :') He also started
walking to church when his ride was a little bit late. He is a
miracle.

This week as I have been thinking about what I have learned in my 3701
days on this earth, and I have learned a lot.. here is a little list
of the most important things I have leavened thus far (not in order of
the most important things):

1. People are awesome. Every single one of us has different feelings,
different styles, different opinions and that makes who we are.
2. Jesus Christ is the Saviour & Redeemer of the world as well as our
elder brother. I am the oldest in my family, so I don't know what it's
like to have an older brother, but I know that Christ paid the price
for all of our sins, pains, and heartaches. I know that because
sometimes I feel that no one understands the way I feel, but the way I
feel when I read about the Saviour suffering in the Garden of
Gethsemane is a feeling of comfort and of peace; that I know he is
there for me and that he can comfort me. He is the perfect older
brother. I am thankful for that.
3. We leave a memory with every single person that we meet. However,
we choose whether it is good or bad.
4. There is a God who loves us. It's that simple, look that the way
our bodies move, the way we are able to think and see, there is no way
that God didn't have a hand in this.
5. Just be nice. People like nice people. So be nice.

I have learned so many other things, but that is what I felt like
sharing today.
Love you all, have a great rest of the week.
