September 5, 2017 Lean not to thine own understanding

Hey Family.

This week has been a real great week. Wetaskiwin is awesome. I think
my favourite part of this week was probably when our investigator Toni
told us she knew that the Book of Mormon was true. She said, "I know
it's true." And I was just grinning from ear to ear!

We had a huge tender mercy happen to us the other day. We had been
tracting for a very long time and i had to use the washroom, so we
went to the nearest timmys, well on the way out of Tim Hortons, we ran
into a Former investigator and we taught him. It was AWESOME! We
shared a message with him and answered a ton of his questions. It was
great.

This week has been a lot of trusting. Learning to trust in God is
hard, but it is something that as we learn to do, he will give us more
opportunities to put more trust in him. I have met some of my best
friends on my mission. I trust that those people will ALWAYS be in my
life. I trust in God that he will direct my path. Sometimes it is
really hard to see what God's plan for us is, however when we trust in
Him. It will all work out

August 29, 2017

Hello from the hottest place I've ever been (legit, it's been like 29° C & i am dying)

This week has been a lot of door knocking and a lot a lot of contacting, but I wouldn't want anything else. We are just having lots of fun.

Anyway, onto the spiritual part of my message. In Psalms we read "He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds."  This week, I have been able to see how Christ has carried our burdens and how he heals our broken hearts.  Like the poem "Footprints in the Sand" we can see that Christ carries us through our hardest times. In our trials and tribulations, we should turn to the Lord for help. It is Christ who has helped me through my hardest times. It is my Saviour who knows how I feel when no one else does. I am so thankful for that knowledge.

Sorry it was a shorty this week, nothing exciting really happened!

August 22, 2017 Dream Team

This week is another testament that God is real and that he answers prayers.

So, transfers happened. I'm staying in Wetaskiwin. However, I am with
my HOME GURL, Sister Victoriano!!!!!!! Holla.
We have been praying everyday for two transfers that we will get to be
companions before we go home, and we are. After transfer calls, I was
like "YES YES YESSSSSS." I was so happy to be able to be with her.
Sister Victoriano is from Southern California and she was a Spanish
missionaries for a year of her mission, so that's great.

Yesterday we knocked on 130+ doors and about 10 people answered their
doors. We literally found all day yesterday, so that was fun.

In relief society, we had a lesson on the Book of Mormon. We were
asked to share an experience where the Book of Mormon has answered our
prayers, and so I did. I shared Enos 1:27 which is my favourite
scripture because it assures me that our Heavenly Father does have a
plan for us. After the lesson, Katrina (a member) asks for two copies
of the Book of Mormon. She gives own to a nonmember who was at church
that day, and then said the spirit told her she just needed to get
another one. Well, a few hours later Katrina calls us. She proceeds
to tell us about her grandma who is completely against the church and
says that she talks negatively about the church all the time.
Katrina says, "Grandma have you ever read the Book of Mormon?"
And she says, "well, no."
Katrina: Well, would you like to?
GMA: sure, I'm sure it will tell me all about how to worship Joseph Smith
Katrina: 🙄 grandma, I got one from the sisters today and I know it
was specifically for you.
GMA: well, I'll read it.

So Katrina goes and grabs the Book of Mormon and gives it to her grandma.

That's all we know that has happened thus far, but we hope that she
will do was Moroni counsels. That would be awesome.

Well family, I love you all. I know that Christ lives and that he
loves us. I also know that most of you only look at my pics, but
that's alright because same.

This week I have been able to feel the spirit so strongly as I testify
that Joseph Smith is a prophet of God, that Jesus Christ lives, and
that there is a God in Heaven who loves us. I know without a shadow of
doubt in my heart that the Book of Mormon is true and that it can
answer our prayers if we pray with a sincere heart and have real
intent.

I have a quote on my wall that says, "there are lives to brighten.
There are hearts to touch. There are souls to save." As a missionary,
it's been great to be able to see people's lives change because of the
gospel of Jesus Christ. I know that there is no other way that we can
have lasting happiness. Other things may bring temporal happiness, but
Christ is the only way that we have everlasting joy. Come unto
Christmas and be COMPLETE in him. 😊
See y'all in a few months. Love you.

August 15, 2017 Jasper, Miracles & Powwows

Hello!

This week was so crazy that I can't remember anything that happened. Except for a few things.

Last week we went to Jasper. I forgot how much I love the security of the mountains. Flip. It was the most beautiful place I've seen in my life. I loved every single second of being there.

We also went to a powwow this weekend, and it was awesome! I lovedddd it. As we were watching the fancy dancers and the chicken dancers, sister Ard leaned over to me and said, "These ARE the Lamanites." But it was so cool.

We also saw a huge miracle this week that showed me that God's timing is 👌🏼. So in this little square of duplexes, we were teaching a part member family that moved out to the res, an investigator who fell off the face of the earth, and another part member family that just barely moved into those duplexes. Well, the part member family that just moved in is soooo flakey. So we had as a back up to tract the street behind them.

We knock the first door, a teenage girl answers the door and gives us here Facebook info.
We get another potential who says she wants us to come back.
We get a YSA aged lady who gave us her Facebook info and said to message her that night.
But if getting 3 potentials wasn't enough, we knocked on another door and asked if we could share a video with her. She told us she was a bible student for the Jehovah's witnesses and we were like, "oh." But then she said, " I've been praying for months and months for someone to come and teach me the truth because the witnesses won't leave me alone."  Oh my goodness. We've met with her once and she just text us and said, "so do you guys have a study manual that I can read this Book of Mormon from?"

WHAT. WHAT. WHAT.

Boys & girls.
Brothas & Sistas.

God's timing is perfect. We were just making our way around for the last 3 months, to find michelle. The Lord directs us as we are obedient to his commandments. He loves us. He hears our prayers. He shows us the way as we trust in him. Never forget that.

That's all I have for this week! Love you all.

August 8, 2017 Facebook, Smartphones & Techy Stuff, Oh my

Hey everyone!
Not a ton of time, I am also emailing at the crack of dawn because we are going to Jasper. :) :) :) :) :) :) this is also the first time I will see mountains since I left the MTC. #blessed

Also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY BESTEST BEST BEST BEST FRIEND IN THE WORLD, SISTER BLACKBURN. LUD YOU.

Also, happy wedding to my other bestie best friend, HAY HAY HARRIZ, I got your wedding invitation. Sorry, I won't be able to make it. (Sorry I am so dumb, I think I'm hilarious)

this week was very eventual. We got smartphones & Facebook (as most of you have been able to tell) :)

I seriously had the best time because I got to spend not one, but almost 2 FULL days with Sister Blackburn. She's the best ever. I love her.
We also did some crazy tracting, ran into a sign that said, "Jehovah's witness & CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS ARE NOT WELCOME HERE. BEWARE." Yikes. I was like, "we better not knock on that door, they don't seem like the nicest people on the planet."
We also went on exchanges and went tracting and we asked the lady if she knew anyone who needed any help, and she said, "NOT FROM THE MORMONS." To which my unfiltered response was a very surprised & kind of hurt "ohhhhh." Then we walked away, literally I am a ding dong.

Lemme just tell you, having Facebook as a missionary is so nice. I thought it was going to be a huge temptation and that it was just waste a whole bunch of my time as a missionary, but there are legit miracles that come from being obedient to the guidelines. We finally got in contact with our investigators & less-actives that live on the res and we are having a Skype lesson with them tomorrow! Seriously, there are so many blessings that are coming from using technology.

It's also super strange to see my good ol friend Jace Colby on the District 3 because it's just like having my good friend with me all the time. It's crazy. I literally get the giggles every time we watch it because I just think about all the memories that I have with Jace. It's awesome.

This week I have really been so thankful for everything in my life, but especially my Saviour. I get to talk about the best thing ever, every single day, yeah it's awfully scary sometimes telling people that The Book of Mormon is about their ancestors, but I've only had a few bad experiences with that.  I love talking to people about what the Saviour has done for them. Jesus Christ extends his arm of mercy towards us & he can save us from any situation we get ourselves into. You can click >>>>> https://www.lds.org/media-library/video/where-justice-love-and-mercy-meet?category=mormon-messages-2017&lang=eng <<<< to see how he does that.

Man, I love being a missionary. It's the greatest thing ever.

August 1, 2017 A testimony of the Book of Mormon

WOWOWOWOW. ITS AUGUST ALREADY?!
That's crazy to me!!

First. Shout out to my girl Holly Engel... I mean Wilde for tying the knot this weekend! Wish I could have been there, but I am still so happy for you!!  It feels like just yesterday was our first lesson with you, but that was almost a whole year ago! Crazy how time flies.

This week was great! We received TWO referrals from missionaries in Edmonton.

One of them was a lady named Gerri! GERRI LOOKED UP THE CHURCH IN THE YELLOW PAGES AND CALLED THE MISSION OFFICE. that never ever ever happens.
However, she lives on the res and after a socially uncomfortable incident happened at the res, we decided we weren't going to go to the townsite any more. But we told her we could meet in Subway, so we go there and keep in mind we have no clue what she looks like and we are trying to keep ourselves clear from anyone we know there. So we go in the Subway and it was just awkward because we have no clue where she is and then she doesn't end up showing up.

However the next day after church she calls us and says, "I'm in the hospital in Wetaskiwin with my sister. Do you think you could come give me some support?"
We were like, "alright!"
So we head over there and we decide to just bring some copies of the Book of Mormon. While we were there she asked us if we could read her some scriptures that would comfort her. Well, luckily I have been tagging my paper scriptures with scriptures about the Atonement and other topics like that, so I flipped to Mosiah 14:3-7 which says, "He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.  Surely he has borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows; yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.  But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.  All we, like sheep, have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquities of us all.  He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb so he opened not his mouth." I'm not going to tell you why they were at the hospital, but I opened to a scripture that related to their situation very well.
While we found a member to take them to back to a women's shelter on the reserve, I marked as many scriptures as I possibly could that would relate to them in any way, shape, or form. I was pretty nervous the whole time we were driving back with them, but the Spirit comforted me and we got to teach her some of the Restoration. I have never felt the spirit so strong in a car before. I was able to tell them about the Prophet Joseph Smith and how, like Gerri, had a lot of questions too however when he came across the scriptures James 1:5, he pondered it in his heart. He then went to a grove of trees near his home and prayed out loud. As we were teaching Gerri, the spirit testified both to Gerri and myself that Joseph Smith really did see God the Father and Jesus Christ. God calls prophets for the benefit of his children. I know that is true. I also know that Christ is our elder brother and he really is our Saviour.

S/O to sister Rees in Idaho for putting this Mormon message into her email because it's awesome.

I highly recommend that you all watch it. :)

That's all I have got for today!

Oh, btws you will probably see me on Facebook this week because our blessed mission gets the privilege having it.  If you want to get in contact with me, email me. ;) please don't message me. It'll get awkward.

July 25, 2017 He lives to calm my troubled soul!

Man. This week has sure been a week. Maybe two weeks, at least it felt like it.

First shout out to Elder Fisher for completing his mission! See you in
January! If I knew how to speak Russian I would say Love You, but I
don't so, Love You!

So, continuing story of Ryan Erminskin.
There is none, he didn't show up to that lesson, nor did he show up to
his baptismal interview. That's a good start to how this story begins.
You know, Sister Ard and I go to the church in hopes that Ryan will be
there for his interview.
He isn't.
We are in complete denial and just decide to wait ten more minutes
while we call some people. THEN we see a dirty white Chrysler 200
drive behind the church (that's what he drives). We were like, "no
way. NO WAY. NO WAY. It has to be him, it rained all day and so that's
why it's dirty because they had to drive from the res!"
But that white Chrysler 200 never pulled into the church, just into
one of the 17 pawn shops in Wetaskiwin. So then a few minutes later it
pulls out of the parking lot, and I say to sister Ard, "I'm following
it." So we pull out of the church parking lot into the mall, the car
is no where to be seen.
I turn to sister Ard and say, "Sister I am being directed by the
spirit currently, knowing not which way I should turn."
We go drive past where Ryan used to live and I just zoom past his
house, nothing.
We do one more loop around the mall and there is the mud-covered car.
In the McDonald's parking lot.
I was like, "sister. We must go in."
She said, "sister, we can't stalk him."
In my brain I am thinking, "there is no way in heck that we would just
find his car if it weren't for the spirit."
HOWEVER, we didn't go in. We got a drink from the drive through and
see his car drive past. There Ryan is in the back of the mud-caked
Chrysler 200.
We haven't heard from him since.

Another exciting story. Tornado watch. Sunday night.
We are tracting on Sunday night and we were determined to finish this
one Street, but every time we planned to go there, there would
literally be a giant storm. Every. Single. Time. So we see some storm
clouds a brewing and the spirit tells me, "Lex. Don't be an idiot, be
safe." But I'm like, "Nope. Gotta Tract."
So we do, we get to the end house and the lady says to us, "there's a
tornado watch on right now. You should be careful of that."
We look up in the sky and there are three layers of some of the
darkest clouds I have ever seen are rolling in at very high speeds.
I, for some stupid reason, decided that I should wear a little bit
taller of a heel than I usually wear that day. Man, I booked it from
the end of the street to where we parked our car - didn't sprain
anything though - talent. I get into the car and *DING* hail the size
of a golf ball hits our wind shield. *CLUNK* another one. Soon, it
seems like we are in the middle monsoon. We get into our driveway, and
I feel as if the windshield is literally going to break that's how mad
this hail storm was.
Another Testament that God is there and he answers prayers. We prayed
that hail would let up just a bit, so we could get inside without
getting pelted by golf balls. It seriously let up for 15 seconds, and
we made inside. We live with members who have a basement and they were
waiting for us to get there and brought us downstairs. 20 minutes
later, we decide it's probably safe we go upstairs. So I was finally
able to get to know the people that we live with from that experience.
I am thankful that Heavenly Father is so aware of me.

This week we were in supper and we saw a sign that said, "Sometimes He
calms the storm. Sometimes He lets the storm rage and calms the
child." That is most definitely how I felt in the storm. I love this
work and I love the Lord.
